New Species Identified and Named After Iconic Bristol Landmark

The zoological team at Bristol Aquarium have identified that the collection’s turbot is a never-before catalogued species. During the current temporary closure at Bristol Aquarium, the zoological team have been spending even more time with the animals than usual and have used their extra time swotting up on their classification and animal ID skills.

Giant Grouper at Bristol Aquarium

Bristol Aquarium has added a giant grouper (Epinephelus lanceolatus) to their coral seas display for the first time.The giant grouper is currently a two-year-old female but is a protogynous hermaphrodite so will change sex to become a male in around three to five years when she reaches sexual maturity.
